Fine-tuned to have an easy barrier of entry with a high skill ceiling, it plays the best out of the bunch, and its litany of mini-game modes and museum-like references to hundreds of different games from throughout history make it a must-have for fans of all ages. -A.B.

Although it’s built off the bones of the Dark Souls series, there really is no other game like Elden Ring. FromSoftware’s chilly open-world fantasy, partly conceptualized by Game of Thrones writer George R. R. Martin, is dripping with gothic style. From its selfish, ethereal gods to towering, accursed monsters, the player must cut down all adversaries as part of their quest to seize the Lands Between’s empty throne.
While many games are distinctly goal-oriented, Stardew Valley’s combination of relaxing vibes and low-urgency tasks manages to turn the labor of farm work into something more therapeutic. Scott pilgrim vs the world game
GameTrailers called said PS3 version “an excellent pastiche that will reaffirm your love for classic beat-em-ups.” Kotaku called it “an entertaining little old-school beat-em up that becomes exponentially more entertaining the more friends you play with.” GameSpot said that the game is a bit too chaotic with four players on screen.
I also have to note that Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is the most prominent video game ever to be set in my hometown of Toronto, so it holds a special place personally. I can’t think of another game where you have to dodge TTC buses or collect toonies ($2 coins) to buy a poutine. My friends from New York, London, and Tokyo can play through huge, nearly photo-realistic versions of their homes, but I’m pretty happy to stick with what Scott Pilgrim has to offer. It’s certainly very Canadian.
The gameplay is solid, if not as deep as some of its contemporaries or more recent titles like Streets of Rage 4. But, like the movie version of Scott Pilgrim, it’s also incredibly stylish. Fighting enemies is really just an excuse to see the gorgeous pixel art and listen to the amazing soundtrack. Sometimes, after clearing out a wave of enemies, I’ll just sit for a second to soak in the sound and visuals. I’ve been playing on the PS5 via backwards compatibility, and the experience holds up extremely well.
On September 10, 2020, during the Ubisoft Forward live stream event, Ubisoft announced a re-release of the game, called Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game – Complete Edition, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna and Microsoft Windows computers through Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store, that will include both the Knives Chau and Wallace Wells add-on packs. The re-release was developed by Engine Software and was initially stated for a Holiday 2020 release, but was released worldwide on January 14th, 2021.
Prior to release, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game received nominations for Best Downloadable Game of E3 2010 by both GameSpot. It was nominated for Best Downloadable Game and won Best Adapted Video Game at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards.
